Food Photography

This project has helped me learn how to take photographs from a simple to a creative approach, using all the photography techniques learned throughout the Media Communications Program. The goal was to create and use the techniques learned from my photography class. I’ve now taken more food photography photos because I love to challenge myself. Come along with me and my Nikon camera to explore different dishes my family enjoys and get inspired. Photos were taken in manual mode while adjusting the ISO and aperture settings. Inspiration was the key to everything in my photography, creating a visual story of colours and textures. I practiced food styling and used a tripod, a centre arm, two light boxes, and styling props. I started taking food photography for a branding Fall assignment where I post 12 photos each week on my Instagram with captions, such as, “Food is my comfort whenever I need it the most.”

Painting with Light

In my photography course, we were tasked to use low shutter speed, with low/dark ambient lighting, various colour filters and a timer to capture the motion of a brighter light source. This project has helped me learn how to take photographs from a simple to a creative approach. There were some difficulties encountered trying to paint with light, which required many attempts. However, I managed to accomplish the desired effect. Exploring and experimenting with light painting was very rewarding. This technique required at least two people to help capture this effect.

My Travel Diary photos were from many trips my family and I took, and here in Ontario, Canada. The first two photos were from the Amalfi Coast and Rome, Italy. These two photographs have a special meaning to me because it was our first time travelling to Europe as a family. The third photo is from Venice and the fourth photo is a Duomo (church) in Amalfi City, where the bells rang at night and in the morning. Further below, were pictures taken in Port Hope and the city of Cobourg.
